West Coast Winch at SEMA 2014

Attention automotive enthusiasts – we have some good news.
SEMA_Show_Logo_4CWest Coast Winch was recently asked to attend the 2014 SEMA Show in Las Vegas next week. SEMA is one of the largest trade shows in the world, held at the Las Vegas Convention Center. This prestigious event is open only to automotive industry experts and buyers. Once the directors of the SEMA show saw the Portable Winch’s applications for towing, off-roading, and boating, we were invited in!

We will be sharing booth #33055 with TUFTRUCK Coils Manufacturing between November 4th to November 7th. If you happen to be attending the show, stop by and say hello! Look for our booth’s banner.

We will feature our two most popular products at the show – the PCW3000 and the PCW5000.

large_844The PCW3000 is our newest gas winch model, weighing in at only 20 lbs. The PCW3000 lives up to it’s name as the ‘Portable’ Winch; the combination of it’s light weight, 360 All Purpose Engine, and small size combine to make a Winch that can be used at any angle without fear of flooding the engine. The PCW3000 also boasts a 1500 lbs pulling capacity at a pulling rate of 26′ per minute.

large_630The PCW5000 is the ‘Classic’ Portable Winch. The Winch that started it all. While the PCW5000 is the heavier model at 35 lbs, it is also the most powerful winch on the market with its ability to pull up to 2200 lbs on a single line. A 50cc GXH Honda 4-Stroke engine generates this power, at an incredible line speed of 40′ per minute. Many accessories for both winches can customize the winch for more power and faster pulling speeds.

We will keep you updated on the SEMA Show next week, including plenty of pictures, so make sure to follow us on Facebook, Twitter, and Google +. For more information on the SEMA Show, click here.

Featured Product – PCW3000 ‘Hunting Winch’

Just in time for Hunting season, we would like to introduce the PCW3000 Portable Winch. The PCW3000 is the newest Portable Winch model that moves the brands famous light weight to a new level. It’s predecessor, the PCW5000, weighs only 35lbs., lightweight enough to define the word ‘Portable’. The PCW3000 goes another step beyond.

PCW3000 - from the PW site

The PCW3000 weighs only 20lbs., Honda engine included. The lightweight aspects of the winch make it ideal for jobs that require lots of travel, or where the only method of transportation is on foot. Unlike the PCW5000, the ‘3000 has a 360 All Purpose engine. Additionally, the Winch does not have an oil pan. What does this mean? Those who have used gas winches, or lawnmowers and other gas-powered tools, know that once you flip the engine, it floods, leaving you with a very large paperweight. The PCW3000 lives up to the ‘Portable’ name; you can store or carry the winch at any angle.

That’s why we nicknamed this winch the Hunting Winch. With the right accessories you can strap the PCW3000 on your back and take it anywhere in the shrub. With 1550lbs. of pulling capability, you can pull anything you can shoot from the bush with ease.

The PCW3000 can be helpful in more ways than just retrieving game from where you shoot it. It can also be used to move wood, hang deer for dressing, tow your ATV or 4X4 if yu get stuck in the mud, etc. The PCW3000 was built around the needs of a hunter for a hunter. And it’s here for Hunting Season.

Those antlers would look GREAT on the wall!

Of course, you also need to have some solid knowledge before you go on your first trip of the season. To make that trip a success, we suggest you visit Outdoor Life for some good deer hunting tips. If you are looking to go somewhere special this season, Ask Men has a great article on the Top 10 Luxurious Hunting Lodges for you to visit. And don’t forget your gear! The PCW3000 from Portable Winch is a great tool for pulling a deer from downhill, in a ditch, or in any other low-access areas. You can also use the Winch to hang your deer for dressing, moving firewood, and moving your Quad or ATV. Make sure you are prepared for the fun ahead!

Forestry Foreman Fined Over Death – New Zealand News

A recent news story from New Zealand caught our attention the other day, to our great sadness. In March of 2013, Foreman and part owner of Complete Logging Limited Major Nelson was performing a tree-felling job with co-worker Robert Ruri-Epapara. Major Nelson was climbing and trimming while Robert Ruri-Epapara was doing ground work below. Reportedly, Nelson was unaware of his co-worker’s location on the ground as he was felling large branches. Unfortunately, Ruri-Epapara happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time as one of these branches fell on top of him, killing him on impact.

We cannot stress enough how important it is to use safety measures on ALL aspects of tree care. As blue-moon as these types of situations appear, they can happen, and (at the risk of sounding cliche) it’s better to be safe than sorry. The article mentions that Nelson was found guilty of not conducting tree felling within the ‘two tree length rule’, being that the climbing arborist should not begin falling trees unless everyone is a distance of two tree lengths away. I have never heard of this trick, but it definitely sounds wise to follow.

Forestry worker uses the Portable Winch to safely bring down a tree.

The county of New Zealand also recently issued a statement that machines and guiding systems should be a primary way to guide branches and logs as they fall to ensure worker safety. Using a Winch or other method of tree fall guiding is a recommended work practice. The picture above shows one of many safe methods to bring down a tree.

Portable Winch West Coast Winch YouTube Blog

New YouTube Channel and Video

As mentioned in our previous blog post, we have moved into the world of video and YouTube. Our first video is now public – don’t worry, we’ll have more soon! The video, shown below, features the PCW5000 and takes place in the Woods in Vancouver, British Columbia. We think that our spokesperson, Lisa Clark, does a great job explaining how to use the Winch, how to set up the accessories for safety and effectiveness, and just how easy it is for the Portable Winch to pull a log that weighs a ton – literally! But don’t take our word for it – watch the video below, and subscribe for more coming soon!

What do you think of our first video? If you have any questions or comments, or want to make a suggestion for our next video, please let us know in the comments below or on our YouTube channel! Thanks for watching!
